Pinnacles of Power
Gamblers Guide to Toril session 36
Whiskey in a Jar
That should be it for this cavern complex, unless someone brings an army of dwarves to tunnel through all the cave-ins in the area. We explored a bit more, notably finding an active portal on the other side of the lake that led to a huge enclosed space filled with webs and other signs pointing to drow occupation. The portal had a false vision on it showing a picturesque lizardman village ready for exploiting, but I just powered through that illusion.
There was also another portal on the side of the lake we’ve spent our time on so far, but there were some wraiths on the way to it so we left it to last. Turns out the wraiths were there just guarding a recently built wall and offered no objection to us walking by to examine the portal. This one led to Nenlast, a fishing village by Lake Nen, and I could see those earth motes hanging around over the lake that Janeausdal had mentioned so maybe there was something there to explore; I wonder if I could harness air magic to combat fire? Would it suffocate an efreeti or just fan the flames hotter?
While I was pondering these important details, avatar managed to catch the attention of someone behind the fresh wall. Kalarel, but just the brains. In a jar. This is the envoy of Raven Queen that the avatar wanted to help? There is just no understanding some
people things. It would seem to me that this Kalarel fellow is of no use to us or me, more importantly. How could I expect anything out of someone who manages to get himself locked in a jar of brains? Kalarel explained that Cornelius had done this to him, but that guy didn’t seem that powerful when we saw him earlier. Who knows?
Further complicating the situation, Kaithlin managed to turn the undead back to halflings, one of which Kalarel wanted as a new host body. Weakling. He should just take it what he wants, except not Janeausdal that he latched onto. That one I still need for all the lore he knows. I need to be careful here, and ready to destroy Kalarel the moment something fishy happens. This is like that deep dragon redux. “Help me please, and I will reward you even more magnificently than the last guy who promised it to you!”
The avatar smacked both the halflings unconscious and shoved one of them towards Kalarel, so it looks like he might be getting a new body after all, at least until it needs to be destroyed.
